Revolutionary Unveiling: Microsoft Introduces Windows Server 2025, Unveiling the Cutting-Edge Hotpatching Feature for Seamless User Experience

Every three years, Microsoft announces the next version of Windows Server, and they have recently revealed that the upcoming version will be called Windows Server 2025, following the release of Windows Server 2022 in 2021. In the past, Microsoft used a generic name, Windows Server vNext, without specifying a clear year. However, they have now updated the name of their latest testing version, previously known as Windows Server Insider, to Windows Server 2025.

One of the notable features in Windows Server 2025 is Hotpatching, which allows for the installation of monthly security patches without the need to restart the machine every time. This feature was already present in Windows Server 2022 on Azure. Microsoft will release important (baseline) patches that require a machine reboot on a quarterly basis, while the remaining patches within that quarter will be hotpatches that do not require a machine reboot.

Now, the Hotpatching feature is available in Windows Server 2025 for everyone to use, without the need to be on Azure any longer. Other announced features in Windows Server 2025 include Next Generation Active Directory and SMB, Mission Critical Data & Storage, and Hyper-V & AI.

TL;DR: Microsoft has announced that the next version of Windows Server will be called Windows Server 2025. This version introduces the Hotpatching feature, allowing for the installation of monthly security patches without the need to restart the machine. It also includes other features such as Next Generation Active Directory and SMB, Mission Critical Data & Storage, and Hyper-V & AI.
