Revolutionary Warfare: Unveiling a Modern-day Battlefront against the Golden Age – Battlefield 3-4

Vince Zampella, the founder of Respawn and current head of the Battlefield franchise at EA, recently sat down for an interview with IGN to discuss his plans to revitalize the Battlefield series. He also unveiled the first concept art of the upcoming game.

Zampella confirmed that the new installment of Battlefield (unnamed as of yet) will be set in the modern era, rather than in past or future wars. He cited Battlefield 3 and 4 as the golden age of the franchise, aiming to return to its core roots that were highly successful during that time.

He also mentioned the player count of 128 in Battlefield 2042, emphasizing that having a high player count should not be a mere numbers game but should focus on providing the most enjoyable experience. Zampella prefers smaller maps with higher density, designed to perfection by EA’s talented team.

Another topic Zampella touched upon was the Specialist system, which has now been scrapped in favor of reverting back to the traditional class-based system. While he was not involved in the development process of 2042, he acknowledged the team’s experimental nature but advocated for returning to what works best if new ideas do not pan out.

In essence, Zampella stressed the importance of ensuring the game’s core foundation is solid before anything else. He reiterated the necessity for fan support and trust in delivering the gameplay experience that Battlefield enthusiasts desire.

As the creator of Call of Duty (working until Modern Warfare 2 in 2009 before parting ways with Activision), Zampella is accustomed to comparisons between Call of Duty and Battlefield. However, he asserted that their goal is not to compete directly with Call of Duty but to create a unique Battlefield experience. He remains confident in Battlefield’s potential to compete with Call of Duty in terms of sales.

TLDR: Vince Zampella discusses plans for the new Battlefield game, emphasizing a return to the franchise’s successful roots and focusing on delivering a distinct gameplay experience.
