Revolutionizing Transportation: Lyft’s Driverless Taxi Service Set to Launch in 2026 with Cutting-Edge Mobileye Technology

Lyft, the car-hailing company, is gearing up to launch its own self-driving taxi service as early as 2026, starting in Dallas as its first location. This innovative venture will utilize technology from Mobileye, a subsidiary of Intel.

The driverless taxi market in the United States is currently led by Waymo, which has already deployed services in multiple cities and recently announced plans to expand to 10 more cities soon. Meanwhile, Cruise under GM shut down in 2024, and Tesla’s Cybercab has stated intentions to begin production of actual vehicles by 2026/2027.

Jeremy Bird, a Lyft executive, disclosed in an interview with TechCrunch that Marubeni, a Japanese company, will be investing in driverless cars (specific vehicle models and brands yet to be revealed), utilizing Mobileye’s control technology and offering services through the Lyft app initially in Dallas before expanding to other cities in Texas.

Lyft’s main competitor, Uber, is engaging in partnerships with various driverless car companies such as Waymo, Aurora, Nuro, and WeRide.

TLDR: Lyft is set to debut a self-driving taxi service soon, with plans to use Mobileye’s technology and expand to multiple cities after starting in Dallas. Other major players in the driverless car market include Waymo, Cruise, and Tesla.
