Counterpoint Research reveals global smartphone sales statistics for Q1/2025, with the market growing by 3%. Apple overtakes Samsung to claim the top spot with a market share of 19% and 18% respectively.
Apple’s sales saw a 4% increase from Q1/2024, thanks to the launch of the iPhone 16e outside the usual iPhone release cycle in Q3, boosting sales in Japan, India, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. While sales in Europe, the US, and China remained relatively stable, it was enough to propel Apple to the top spot for the quarter.
Samsung, on the other hand, saw a slight dip in Q1/2025 due to the delayed release of the Galaxy S25. However, March sales saw a significant two-digit growth for Samsung.
Xiaomi takes the third spot with a 14% market share and a 5% sales growth. Of note is the resurgence of Xiaomi’s sales in China following the launch of their electric vehicle, reigniting interest in the brand.
In fourth place, Vivo captures an 8% market share with a 6% growth, the highest among all brands. Meanwhile, Oppo ranks fifth with an 8% market share, experiencing a 1% decline in sales.
