Rumor: Amazon Prepares to Unveil Vega OS Operating System for TV Accessories in Coming Year

There have been rumors since last year that Amazon is planning to switch to a new operating system for their Fire TV devices that are not based on Android, and the latest information suggests that Amazon will no longer use the term Fire OS. Janko Roettgers from Lowpass reports, citing multiple sources, that this new operating system will be called Vega OS, aligning with internal code names that have surfaced. Amazon will gradually transition connected TV devices to Vega OS, with the first set of products expected to be released this year.

Vega OS is built on Linux and has already been deployed on specific devices such as Echo Show 5, Echo Hub, and Echo Spot, although the operating system’s name has not been officially announced.

TLDR: Amazon is rumored to be changing the operating system for Fire TV devices to Vega OS, moving away from the term Fire OS and transitioning to a Linux-based system for their connected TV devices.
