Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provides further insight into Apple’s upcoming products, reporting a shift towards in-house designed Wi-Fi chips replacing the current Broadcom chips in various devices. This change is expected to be prominently visible by the second half of 2025.
The iPhone 17, as indicated by Kuo, is set to be the first product to feature Apple’s own Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips, manufactured by TSMC using a 7-nanometer process to support Wi-Fi 7 standards.
Previously, reports suggested that the upcoming iPhone SE 4, expected to debut early next year, will be the first product to utilize Apple’s 5G chip. Kuo affirms this information, noting that while the iPhone SE 4 will retain Broadcom Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips, the 5G chip will be exclusively used in conjunction with the iPhone SE 4 and iPad Air, with no confirmation yet for its integration in the iPhone 17.
Kuo predicts that Apple’s transition to entirely self-designed chips will be completed within the next 3 years.
TLDR: Ming-Chi Kuo reveals Apple’s plans to replace Broadcom chips with in-house designed Wi-Fi chips in upcoming products, with the iPhone 17 leading the way. The transition to Apple’s own chips is expected to be complete within 3 years.
