Rumor: OpenAI in Negotiations to Acquire Windsurf Business Valued at 3 Billion Dollars

Reports indicate that OpenAI is in talks to acquire Windsurf, the developer of IDE software for coding with AI assistance, with a proposed purchase value of $3 billion. Originally known as Codeium, Windsurf’s IDE has a selling point of AI-assisted code writing similar to Cursor or Replit, attracting major AI developers like Microsoft with Visual Studio Code in Agent mode and Anthropic, as well as OpenAI attempting to showcase this feature.
