Rumor: ROG Ally X Allegedly Equipped with 24GB RAM and Priced at $799, The Verge Team Test-Drives

Information from Arsène Lupin, a notorious leaker in the Gadget world, reveals that the upcoming ROG Ally X portable PC gaming device set to debut on June 2nd may come with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a 1TB storage capacity, an impressive 8-hour battery life, and could potentially be priced at $799 USD (more expensive than the previous ROG Ally Z1 Extreme model, priced around $100 less).

Recently, The Verge team got a hands-on experience with the device, but Asus prohibited them from turning it on to test its gaming performance. Furthermore, the device was covered in tape, even blocking the connection ports, and they were not allowed to compare it to the original ROG Ally model.

Upon inspection by The Verge team, Asus seems to have made significant improvements to the device in terms of ergonomics, though they preferred the Steam Deck overall. The device looks remarkably similar to its predecessor, albeit now in a black color scheme. Some noticeable changes include:

– The front ABXY buttons have been slightly shifted downwards closer to the right analog stick.
– The front buttons have slightly reduced vibration.
– The analog sticks are coated with rubber similar to the Steam Deck OLED version, providing a slightly firmer grip.
– The D-pad has been adjusted to an 8-directional layout and has a slightly higher profile.
– The LT and RT buttons still have a similar pulling force as before.

TLDR: The upcoming ROG Ally X may feature impressive specs and design changes, but hands-on experience reveals some similarities with its predecessor and a preference for the Steam Deck.
