Rumored: New AirPods in 2026 Featuring Infrared Camera Sensors, Larger Battery in iPhone 16.

Information sourced from Ming-Chi Kuo, an industry analyst with additional insights on the new AirPods and battery of the iPhone 16. Starting with the AirPods, it was reported that Apple plans to introduce AirPods with a built-in camera in 2026. This additional camera is an infrared camera similar to the Face ID front camera in the iPhone, designed for object detection rather than capturing images.

Kuo mentioned that the infrared camera feature on AirPods is expected to enhance functionality with Vision Pro or other headsets in the future. This will improve the ability to detect user surroundings, such as when someone approaches or potentially develop features for controlling devices through hand gestures. Apple has already patented this technology so it is in development.

Prior to this, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg had previously indicated that the new AirPods Pro would have a low-resolution camera for environmental detection. Additionally, Kuo also posted further information regarding the battery of the new iPhone 16 this year. Reports suggest that the iPhone battery will transition to a metal case to facilitate easier disassembly in compliance with new EU regulations. This change in casing material has allowed Apple to increase the battery capacity by an additional 5-10%, while still meeting safety standards, resulting in a dual benefit.

TLDR: Ming-Chi Kuo shared insights on the new AirPods with a built-in camera, potential features, and battery improvements for the iPhone 16.
