Every week, catch the Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, diving into the latest scoop on the all-new sleek iPhone 17 models, including the iPhone 17 Air and the latest updates on the Studio Display.
The iPhone 17 Air, previously rumored to replace the Plus models, is now reported to be a thin device that doesn’t focus much on hardware specs. However, the latest report reveals that the iPhone 17 Air will feature Camera Control and a ProMotion camera similar to the Pro models.
Further details include the ultra-thin body at 5.5 millimeters, starting price equivalent to the iPhone 16 Plus it replaces, single rear camera, single speaker (down from the usual two), 6.6-inch display, a smaller battery but Apple aims to maintain similar battery life as the previous model, and the use of the C1 chip like the iPhone 16e.
Gurman mentioned that Apple initially aimed to make the iPhone 17 Air so thin that they had planned to remove the USB-C charging port and rely solely on wireless charging. However, this plan was ultimately scrapped to avoid issues with the European Union.
Additional leaked images of the prototype iPhone 17 models by Sonny Dickson reveal the single rear camera and the incredibly thin design of the iPhone 17 Air compared to other models. Previous rumors also suggested a square camera array for other models (all images at the end of the article).
Regarding the Studio Display, Gurman previously mentioned Apple developing a new model with the codename J427. The latest update suggests that Apple is working on another display model codenamed J527, which differs in specs from J427. It’s uncertain whether J527 will be the third version of the Studio Display or another prototype Apple is considering alongside J427. Regardless, previous information indicated that the Studio Display is slated for a potential release as soon as 2026.
