Rumors swirl over iOS 18 introducing innovative feature for app-specific lock settings.

The rumor mill is still churning before Apple’s annual WWDC24 seminar tomorrow night, with a new feature on iOS 18 security that doesn’t involve AI.

The feature in question is app-specific locking, allowing users to enhance security by requiring authentication every time an app is opened, such as using Face ID, Touch ID, or a Passcode. Supported apps include iOS basics like Mail, Messages, Notes, Phone, Photos, Safari, and Settings.

App locking isn’t entirely new, as many apps already support it or can be configured using Screen Time and Shortcuts. Apple’s native apps partially support this feature, with Notes locking and Photos requiring authentication when accessing the Recently Deleted folder.
