Seamlessly Integrate Chat and Teams Tabs, Minimize User Confusion

Microsoft has revamped the appearance of Teams desktop version by merging the Chat tab for private conversations and the Teams tab for channels into a single tab, with separate sections within it. The integration of Chat/Teams tabs started in August, aiming to address user confusion between Chat/Teams and the prevalent usage of Chat alone. Teams has now been successfully updated and is open for public preview testing.

TLDR: Microsoft has restructured Teams desktop version to combine Chat and Teams tabs into one, addressing user confusion and emphasizing Chat usage.
