Sergey Brin advocates for Gemini team members to embrace daily office presence, working 60 hours per week

The New York Times reported uncovering internal notes from Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, who has returned to assist the company’s AI efforts. In his notes, he “recommends” that employees (specifically the Gemini team) come to the office every day.

Brin believes that working 60 hours a week in the office is the sweet spot for productivity, but he also clearly states that working over 60 hours a week may lead to burnout. Working less than 60 hours a week may also lower morale among coworkers.

Brin’s message is directed specifically to the Gemini team. He reasons that the competition in the AI industry is intensifying, with the ultimate goal of achieving AGI on the horizon. He sees Google as having all the ingredients to succeed, with the only remaining task being to work hard towards the goal.

He also discusses how employees should use AI to code more efficiently. Google employees can become the most efficient programmers by utilizing our own AI.

Google’s current official policy requires employees to come to the office at least 3 days a week.
