Singapore Allocates 300MW of Energy to Data Centers, Focusing on High-Efficiency Facilities

Singapore announces the allocation of 300MW of energy for expanding data centers, in addition to the existing 1.4GW capacity, to support future growth. Despite current energy constraints leading to limited data center openings, Singapore’s data center development plan acknowledges the country’s small size limitations but sees it as an opportunity to develop highly efficient data centers. The new data centers will aim for a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.3 and focus on efficient heat dissipation methods such as water cooling, improved heat resilience, and energy-saving software development.

By the end of this year, the Singaporean government will raise energy efficiency standards for data centers, along with investing in organizations to upgrade their IT equipment. Last year, the Laotian government had negotiations with the Thai government to sell electricity to Singapore through Thailand, but Finance Minister Thawee Todsint rejected the proposal, suggesting to sell it to Thailand instead.
