Singapore Labor Laws: Platform Must Compensate for Accidents, Provide Social Insurance, and Form Unions

The Singapore Parliament has enacted the Platform Workers Act to establish guidelines for protecting workers who operate through online platforms, bringing them closer to the level of regular employees.

Under this law, employers are required to provide compensation for work-related injuries similar to regular employees, and platforms must deduct social security contributions. The payment rates will gradually increase until they match those of traditional employees. Ultimately, both workers and platforms have the right to form their own unions for collective bargaining.

This legislation will come into effect on January 1, 2025.
