Singapore’s Minister of Health, Ong Ye Kung, has urged the public to get the updated version of the COVID-19 vaccine as hospitalizations due to the virus have been on the rise, with up to 280 admissions in the past week. The Singaporean government recommends people to get additional doses of the vaccine at least 5 months after their last jab, and especially if it has been around a year since their last dose. The available options include Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, Novavax, and Sinovac. Previously withdrawn from the market due to not updating their strains, Novavax/Nuvaxovid XBB.1.5 is now back in use in Singapore, particularly for those unable to receive mRNA vaccines. It is anticipated that new COVID-19 cases in Singapore will continue to rise until reaching a peak by the end of June.
