SK Telecom Mobile Camp in South Korea Faces Data Breach, Mandates Replacement of 23 Million SIM Cards

SK Telecom, the largest mobile network provider in South Korea, is in the process of changing SIM cards for all users, totaling 23 million numbers, after hackers attacked and downloaded data up to 1GB without clear information on what was taken.

Previously, SK Telecom offered SIM protection services by locking SIM cards to registered phones, but this process proved cumbersome, especially for customers changing phones or traveling abroad. As a result, the company decided to offer the option to change SIM cards for all customers.

The main challenge is that SK Telecom only has just over a million SIM cards in stock and is planning to purchase an additional 5 million. The SIM card change points are SK Telecom stores, totaling around 2,300 locations nationwide.

If the SIM card information is leaked, it could potentially allow hackers to impersonate any user on the network.

[TLDR: SK Telecom, the leading mobile network provider in South Korea, is changing SIM cards for all users following a data breach by hackers. The company is facing challenges with limited SIM card stock and potential security risks.]
