Speculation: AirPods Max 2 may not launch anytime soon – More details on iOS 19

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has provided information on the latest rumors about new Apple products in the weekly newsletter. This time, it’s about the AirPods Max headphones and features of the iOS 19 operating system.

Let’s start with the AirPods Max. Even though the product has been on sale for 4 years now, there haven’t been any major upgrades. It seems like it might be time for Apple to release an upgraded version soon (there are rumors this year). However, Gurman suggests that Apple doesn’t have plans to release a new version of the AirPods Max anytime soon. One reason could be that the AirPods Max hasn’t been a top-selling product.

In recent times, the AirPods Max received a minor hardware update, switching to using USB-C and adding color options. However, the chip is still the H1, which means it doesn’t support features like Adaptive Audio found in the latest AirPods Pro.

As for iOS 19, Gurman previously mentioned that a standout feature is Siri, which will have improved conversational capabilities referred to internally as LLM Siri. Gurman says that Apple will announce this feature at WWDC 2025 next year, but all features will be available in early 2026 with iOS 19.4. The development of these features within Apple has been delayed, although no specific reason has been given.

This direction is similar to Apple Intelligence in iOS 18, which wasn’t available in iOS 18.0 but was introduced in iOS 18.1 and gradually improved until iOS 18.4, which was a major update.

TLDR: Rumors suggest Apple may not be releasing a new version of AirPods Max soon, while iOS 19 is expected to introduce improved Siri capabilities at WWDC 2025.
