Close to the annual WWDC developer conference by Apple, rumors are circulating heavily these days. Most recently, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman provided information about a new basic app in iOS 18 and macOS 15 called Passwords.
The functionality of the Passwords app is as straightforward as its name suggests. It operates similarly to popular apps like 1Password or LastPass, storing user login information for various services in one centralized location. Data synchronization across devices is done through iCloud Keychain.
This feature is not groundbreaking for Apple’s operating system, as the autofill function for login credentials already exists and can be configured in Settings. However, separating the app may encourage more users to utilize this functionality and set strong passwords for each service without the need to remember them individually.
