The news agency Reuters reports that the government of Taiwan is preparing to introduce new regulations to expand control over the export of semiconductor machinery from foreign countries to China. It is expected that an official announcement will be made next month.
However, sources indicate that this new export control regulation will exempt certain countries that export semiconductor machinery, such as the Netherlands, Japan, and South Korea. This means that companies like ASML, a crucial manufacturer of machinery used in chip production from the Netherlands, will be exempted and able to export machinery to China without restrictions.
This regulation, known as the Foreign Direct Product, will impact manufacturers of machinery that utilize technology from the United States, even if production takes place outside of the US.
It is worth noting that a representative of the US government declined to comment on this news to Reuters.
