Spotify to Update App in EU Without In-App System, But Will Attach Direct Membership Sign-Up Links Instead

Spotify has revealed details of the update on the iOS app that will benefit users in the EU. Previously, Spotify planned to introduce an In-App system for subscription on the iOS app in line with iOS 17.4 guidelines as per the DMA law in the EU. This allows for payments through other channels, but Apple has set conditions, including paying a fee to Apple and a Core Technology Fee of 0.5 euros per download exceeding one million.

In conjunction with the European Commission’s decision that apps must disclose alternative payment methods within the app, Spotify announced that the EU version of the app will provide details of each plan along with prices and links for subscription outside the In-App system to avoid Apple’s fee requirements.

Spotify has sent this updated app for approval on the App Store.
