Square Enix Announces Revamped Dragon Quest Retro Edition in 2D-HD Format, Anticipated as the Third Installment.

Square Enix has released a short video teaser through the official Dragon Quest account, showcasing the iconic hero of legend, Roto, appearing in games 1 to 3. They tease, “The legend of Roto is about to begin… Are you ready for your adventure?” The clip mentions platforms such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The video teaser showcases a 2D-HD logo hinting at a remastered version of old games in a 2.5D format, similar to Square Enix’s previous creations like Star Ocean 2, Live A Live, or the new series Octopath Traveler.

This announcement brings to mind Dragon Quest III 2D-HD that was announced in 2021, developed by the team led by Tomoya Asano, known for series like Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default. However, after the initial announcement and teaser release, there has been no further news until now, leaving fans eagerly anticipating more details. The story of Dragon Quest III serves as the origin of the legendary hero Roto, in line with the latest teaser’s hint.

TLDR: Square Enix teases the beginning of the legend of Roto in a remastered 2.5D format, sparking excitement among fans for the upcoming adventure across multiple platforms.
