Square Enix has revealed its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2024 (considered the third quarter of FY2025 according to the fiscal year). The total revenue for the three quarters of fiscal year 2025 is 2.48 trillion yen, a decrease of 9.1% compared to the same period in the previous year. Operating profit stands at 330 billion yen, a decline of 1.6%.
The gaming business can be divided into three parts:
1. PC and console games saw a decrease in revenue, despite the boost from Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. Overall revenue declined due to the absence of major releases like FF16 in the same period last year.
2. MMORPG games experienced an increase in revenue and profit, with FF14’s expansion Dawntrail continuing to drive strong performance.
3. Mobile and browser games recorded a significant decrease in revenue due to existing games no longer generating income.
In addition to the gaming business, Square Enix’s other ventures in the amusement and merchandising sectors saw increased revenue, while the publication business experienced a slight decline.
TL;DR: Square Enix’s financial results for the fourth quarter of 2024 show a decrease in overall revenue, with varying performances across different segments of the gaming business and other ventures.
