Bluesky, a burgeoning social media platform, has announced that they will not utilize user posts for AI training and have no plans to do so. Instead, they have seen a significant number of artists and creators migrating to Bluesky out of concern that their data may be used for AI training by other platforms.
Previously, Bluesky was a platform of choice for creators and artists following X’s announcement that post data would be used for AI training (with an opt-out option), similar to Threads that align with other platforms under Meta’s umbrella. However, Bluesky has disclosed that while they do employ AI internally for content moderation, human moderators still have oversight. Additionally, their AI algorithm for content curation in the Discover feed emphasizes that Generative AI is not used for training from user content.
Despite this, Bluesky representatives addressed observations regarding robots.txt, which specifies conditions for external bots to crawl website data but does not protect against popular Generative AI platforms. Bluesky views these file settings as insufficient for preventing data extraction, opting for alternative protective measures.

TLDR: Bluesky vows not to use user posts for AI training, attracting artists and creators concerned about data privacy. The platform employs AI for content moderation but avoids using Generative AI for training purposes, implementing additional measures to safeguard against data extraction.
