Strategic Guidelines by Instagram and Threads: Dissuading or Concealing Political Posts from Unfollowed Accounts

Instagram and Threads have announced their content management guidelines regarding politics. They will no longer recommend or show posts from accounts that users don’t follow. However, if the content is political and affects the overall feed, Explore, or Reels, it will still be displayed.

This year, we can expect more news about managing social media platforms and political content. This is due to the significant number of elections taking place worldwide, particularly the presidential election at the end of the year.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, further explains that content limitation is part of recommending only interesting content. If users already follow accounts that post political content, those posts will be displayed as usual since they are accounts that users have already chosen to follow.

Nevertheless, if users want to see suggested political content as they normally do with other types of posts, they can customize their settings. Soon, there will be a section called “Suggested Content,” specifically for Political Content, where users can choose to have unlimited display.

TLDR: Instagram and Threads will no longer recommend or show posts from accounts that users don’t follow, but political content that affects the overall feed will still be displayed. Users can customize their settings to continue seeing political content as they normally would. Soon, there will be a section specifically for Political Content where users can choose to have unlimited display.
