Research company HarrisX surveyed around 1,000 adults in the United States to assess their movie-watching behaviors. The findings revealed that approximately 1/3 of respondents prefer watching movies in theaters, while the remaining 2/3 opt for streaming services.
The group that enjoys watching movies in theaters cited the “experience of watching on the big screen” as the top reason, with 59% of respondents agreeing. This was followed by the importance of “sound quality in theaters” and “escaping distractions at home”.
On the other hand, the group that prefers streaming services highlighted the high “cost of movie tickets” as the primary factor, with 53% of participants indicating this. This was followed by considerations such as “other expenses associated with going to the movies” and the “convenience of watching at home”.
Furthermore, there was a significant difference in frequency between the two groups, with the streaming group watching movies an average of over once a week, while the theater group watched movies less frequently by a factor of 7.
