An intriguing development from the antitrust case involving Google Search is the proposal by the Ministry of Justice to separate Chrome into a new company. Previously, it was reported that both OpenAI and Perplexity expressed interest in acquiring Chrome if it were to be divested, however, no specific price was mentioned.
The latest update sees other competitors like Yahoo, now under the new ownership of Apollo Global, also showing interest in acquiring Chrome. A rough estimate values the browser at “tens of billions of dollars,” according to Brian Provost, Head of Yahoo Search, who emphasized Chrome’s dominant position in the web market.
Another direct competitor, DuckDuckGo, estimates that the Chrome business could be worth upwards of 50 billion dollars, a figure beyond what DuckDuckGo may be able to afford.
