Tesla has announced the recall of the Cybertruck pickup trucks in the United States due to the possibility of the external trim panel above the doors, also known as the cant rail, coming loose while driving, posing a potential road hazard. This issue is a result of inadequate adhesive during the vehicle assembly.
Although termed as a recall, it aligns with the preference of the vehicle owners. This marks the 8th recall for the Cybertruck since its launch. Owners taking their vehicles to service centers will have this component replaced free of charge.
Of particular interest, Tesla has identified 46,096 impacted Cybertruck vehicles. This sheds light on the recent sales figures of Cybertruck in the United States. Sales figures for the Cybertruck in the first quarter of 2025 are estimated around 7,000-8,000 units, a decline from Tesla’s initial projection of 10,000-12,000 units.
Reportedly, these sales figures reflect a lackluster performance for the Cybertruck. Tesla’s attempts to entice buyers with free Supercharger access and reduced interest rates do not seem to have a significant impact.
TLDR: Tesla recalls Cybertruck pickups in the US due to the risk of external trim panel detachment while driving. Approximately 46,096 vehicles are affected, indicating a decline in sales performance despite incentive offers.
