Amazon Web Services (AWS) is focusing its investment on cutting-edge cloud technologies like AI, ML, data analytics, and IoT, along with the construction of the AWS Asia Pacific (Bangkok) Region, worth a staggering $5 billion. This move is expected to stimulate economic growth in Thailand, enhance competitiveness, optimize government operations, and address the country’s skilled labor shortage.
In a strategic partnership, Microsoft has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Thai government to strengthen Thailand’s digital technology capabilities. This collaboration aims to improve public services by digitalizing government operations and proactively establish the Utility Green Tariff (UGT) mechanism, enabling businesses to use clean energy efficiently and fairly by leveraging the state’s power infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Google has also signed an MOU with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) to establish a state-of-the-art data center in Thailand, making it the 4th such facility in the Asia-Pacific region and the 11th globally. Additionally, Google has kickstarted projects utilizing AI in the public sector, providing AI workforce training and high-level skills development. Recently, Mr. Nuttaphong Ruangpannawate, also known as MP Theng, expressed that this data center deal was missing from previous government-led cloud initiatives and Google’s investment had been pending for 2-3 years.
Furthermore, Western Digital has decided to expand its investments in Thailand, building upon its existing factories in the country. They have extended an invitation to Walmart to increase its purchase of Thai products for sale in their retail stores.
