The Decision to Conclude the E3 Gaming Exhibition, Following Over Two Decades of Its Organization

After facing numerous challenges in organizing the event for several years, The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the organizer of the E3 gaming exhibition, has decided to terminate the event in the future. ESA states that after over two decades of presenting the video game industry in America and globally, it is now time to end E3. However, ESA will continue to support its members and industry professionals in further developing the industry.

E3 first started in 1995 and was heavily impacted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the cancellation of the event. In 2021, the event returned but was entirely held online, raising questions about the importance of E3 when game companies can independently launch their games online. In 2022, the spread of the Omicron variant led to the cancellation of all in-person plans, resulting in the cancellation of the entire event.

Entering 2023, numerous game companies announced their non-participation, leading to the event being canceled for another year. However, ESA confirmed its intention to continue hosting E3, but with a changed format. Ultimately, they announced the cancellation of all E3 events in the upcoming year and in the future.

TLDR: The Entertainment Software Association has decided to terminate the E3 gaming exhibition after years of challenges. Despite attempts to adapt and continue the event, various circumstances, including the COVID-19 pandemic and lack of industry participation, have led to the final cancellation of E3.
