The European Commission Questioning iPadOS Inclusion in the Gatekeeping Realm Following iOS Footsteps

The European Commission has recently voted to include iPadOS under Gatekeeper in compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), following the footsteps of iOS which was targeted earlier.

The European Commission stated that although iPadOS may not encompass all criteria, market research has revealed that iPadOS serves as a crucial gateway acting as an intermediary for multiple companies to reach customers. For instance, business customers of iPadOS exceed the threshold by up to 11 times, while general customers almost reach the threshold, with expectations of further increases in the future. Customers are locked into a full-size ecosystem through iPadOS.

Apple has a 6-month timeframe to make changes to iPadOS, and it will be interesting to monitor what alterations will be made (such as having a store similar to iOS).
