The Market Share of Bing’s Search Engine Witnesses a Subtle Upturn by Less Than 1% After the Debut of Bing Chat Nearly a Year Ago

StatCounter, an internet usage statistics tracker, has reported the market share of search engines for December 2023. Surprisingly, Microsoft’s Bing saw a slight increase, reaching 3.4%, compared to February 2023 when Microsoft announced the AI capabilities enhancement for Bing, known as Bing Chat (now called Copilot). It seems that Bing Chat did not significantly improve Bing’s market share in the search engine market.

To fully understand this development, we need to go back to the day when Microsoft launched Bing Chat. Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, expressed confidence that Bing would be able to compete more effectively against Google. This momentous occasion has been anticipated for 20 years, presenting an opportunity for Bing to prove its mettle.

However, it is evident that Copilot or Bing Chat will need more time to truly challenge Google’s dominance and capture a larger market share in the search engine industry.

TLDR: StatCounter’s report for December 2023 shows that Microsoft’s Bing experienced a slight increase in market share after the introduction of Bing Chat (now Copilot), but it still has a long way to go to rival Google’s dominance.
