In the week of May 13-19, 2024, Famitsu reported on game sales figures in Japan, with the Nintendo Switch selling an additional 40,706 units, bringing the total to 32,903,701 units. This surpasses the sales of the Nintendo DS, which sold 32,864,129 units, making the Switch the best-selling console in Japan historically.
It took the Switch 377 weeks to surpass the DS in sales, which had accumulated sales over a period of 425 weeks. Despite this achievement, the Switch still ranks third in global all-time sales figures, with 141.32 million units sold, behind the DS with 154 million units and the PlayStation 2 with at least 155 million units. There is still time for the Switch to make further records, especially with rumors of Nintendo preparing to release the next console after the Switch.
