The Perpetual Resurgence: Tekken 8 Unveils DLC Featuring New Character Heihachi Mishima

The finale of Tekken 7 showcases a fierce battle between father and son of the Mishima bloodline, as Kazuya emerges victorious against his father, Heihachi, tossing him into a volcano. The narrative of Tekken 8 then unfolds with another showdown between Kazuya and his son, Jin Kazama.

Fans of the Tekken series are well aware that no one in the Mishima bloodline ever truly perishes, and this was reaffirmed when Bandai Namco recently unveiled a new DLC for Tekken 8 featuring the return of Heihachi Mishima. In a clear display from the teaser clip, Heihachi survived his volcanic ordeal and reemerged as a Tekken monk, donning a tiger mask to conceal his face.

Director and producer of the Tekken series, Katsuhiro Harada, shared with IGN that the storyline of Tekken 7 encapsulated the ultimate clash between Heihachi and Kazuya, with Heihachi seemingly meeting his demise. However, as the development of Tekken 8 progressed, discussions ensued on how to proceed. The fans’ desire for Heihachi’s return ultimately influenced the team’s decision to bring him back.

The preparation for Heihachi’s comeback is strategically paved in Tekken 8, the main installment introducing the new character Reina, who has a connection to Heihachi. In celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Tekken series, the logo features two devil wings on each side, symbolizing the dualistic nature of Heihachi’s persona.

Heihachi is set to be playable in August 2024.

TLDR: The Tekken series continues with the return of Heihachi Mishima in Tekken 8, following a dramatic battle in Tekken 7 and incorporating fan expectations for a character comeback.
