The Phenomenon of Shazam: Unveiling Over 100 Billion Song Searches

Apple announces that the music search service Shazam has surpassed over 100 billion searches since its inception. Shazam was introduced in 2002 in the form of SMS usage exclusively in the United Kingdom. Users had to dial the number 2580 and hold their phones to allow the system to listen and search for songs, then receive song information via SMS.

Apple acquired Shazam in 2018 after years of collaboration. Prior to the acquisition, both companies had worked together through the music search system in iOS. Since then, the capabilities of Shazam have been integrated into iOS, including features in the Control Center, Siri, and Action Button. The most searched song on Shazam is “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I, with over 45 million searches.
