The Tetris Virtuoso: A 13-Year-Old Prodigy Masters the NES Version, Completing the Finale

It is widely known that the game Tetris has no ending scene, as you play continuously and the blocks fall faster and faster until you eventually lose (although some versions of the game may have an ending scene when you reach a certain score). However, recently a player managed to reach the “kill screen” in the Famicom/NES version of Tetris, meaning they reached the point where the game crashes and freezes (a feat previously only achieved by bots and not by human players). This remarkable player is only 13 years old and goes by the name Blue Scuti, who has been participating in Tetris competitions for some time.

Blue showcases their Tetris gameplay on their YouTube channel, and at around the 38-minute mark in one of their videos, they manage to reach the kill screen (partly due to luck). This achievement shocked Blue themselves, as they never expected to actually complete the game.

As the game progresses, the falling blocks in Tetris become so fast that a human player can no longer keep up. The technique used by skilled players is called “button rolling” (refer to the accompanying video clip) to press the buttons faster than rapid button tapping (hypertapping) used in the past. Blue combines this technique with a stroke of luck, becoming the first human to successfully conquer the NES version of Tetris.

TLDR: A 13-year-old player named Blue Scuti has become the first human to reach the kill screen in the Famicom/NES version of Tetris, achieving this feat with a combination of skillful button rolling and a bit of luck.
