The United States Prepares to Enforce New Regulations: Simplifying Cancellation of Subscriptions Must Be as Seamless as the Sign-Up Process.

The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are gearing up to enforce new regulations freshly issued on Monday. These rules will compel companies to simplify their cancellation processes, making it as easy as signing up for their services.

From gym memberships to online services, even health insurance claims must now be easily processed online, rather than forcing customers to print documents and mail them as before. Neera Tanden, a policy advisor at the White House, stated that these rules are aimed at addressing companies’ attempts to delay service (such as insurance) or make cancellation processes more difficult than necessary, all to hold onto customer funds for as long as possible.

It remains to be seen whether these streamlined online cancellation processes will be standardized globally or remain restricted to the United States.
