Microsoft has officially announced the release of Office 2024 after its introduction in March. The official name is Microsoft Office Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) 2024 or Office LTSC 2024. This version is a feature set of Microsoft 365, which is a subscription service, bundled as a standalone software package for customers who require this type of licensing (such as for machines that are not connected to the internet). Most customers are better suited for Microsoft 365.
Office LTSC 2024 has removed Microsoft Publisher, which will be discontinued in 2026, from the suite. It now includes only Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote, Microsoft Access, and lacks all AI features that require the use of Copilot.
Microsoft also warns that support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 will end in October 2025 and advises customers to upgrade to Microsoft 365.
TLDR: Microsoft releases Office 2024, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote, and Microsoft Access, with AI features removed. Support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 will end in October 2025.
