Threads Initiates Advertising Campaign, Impacting Niche User Groups in America and Japan Prior to Launch

Finally, Threads has started displaying advertisements, as rumored earlier. However, it has yet to impact users in Thailand. Meta states that the ad display is currently limited to a few advertisers to gauge response, with effects seen only in the United States and Japan. Plans to expand to other countries are in the pipeline.

Advertisements in Threads will appear as image posts in the feed with a “Sponsored” label. Initially, it will target a small group of users. Meta has introduced tools for users to control the ads they see, providing explanations on how their data is used for advertising purposes. If users come across ads they dislike, they can skip, hide, or report them.

TLDR: Threads now shows ads, but only in the US and Japan for now. Users have control over the ads they see and can manage their preferences.
