Threads Persist…The Download Count of December 2023 Escalates, Securing a Spot in the Prestigious Top 10 Ranking.

Market research company Appfigures has reported interesting data on app download statistics for December 2023. They found that Threads, the text-focused social app from Meta that’s competing with X/Twitter, saw a threefold increase in downloads compared to November. In total, the app was downloaded 28 million times (12 million on iOS and 16 million on Google Play).

These numbers may reflect Meta’s push strategy for Threads in recent months. After experiencing a surge of 100 million sign-ups initially, user numbers have been declining steadily. To counter this, Meta incorporated features similar to X and integrated posts into Facebook and Instagram, which helped attract new users.

However, despite the increased number of downloads, Threads still isn’t standing out significantly. According to Appfigures’ December 2023 app download statistics, Instagram, which is also owned by Meta, was the most downloaded app with 54 million downloads. It was followed by TikTok, Facebook, WhatsApp, and CapCut, with Threads ranking sixth.

As for X, it had approximately 9 million downloads and ranked 36th.

TLDR: Appfigures’ data reveals that Threads, the text-focused app from Meta, saw a threefold increase in downloads in December 2023 compared to the previous month. However, Threads still didn’t achieve a prominent position in the app download rankings, with Instagram being the most downloaded app. X, another competitor, ranked lower in terms of downloads.
