TikTok Ascends as Pioneering Non-Game App Generating Revenue from In-App Transactions to $6 Billion by 2024

Sensor Tower, a mobile app market research company, has released a report on the mobile app and digital advertising market for the fourth quarter of 2024. The key highlight is TikTok (including Douyin in China), an app that is not a gaming app, generating revenue from In-App to the tune of 6 billion dollars within a year, a record for a non-gaming app. In the fourth quarter of 2024, this revenue amounted to 1.9 billion dollars, a significant increase from 2023’s total revenue of 4.4 billion dollars.

This figure clearly outshines other apps, with only YouTube and Google One among non-gaming apps surpassing TikTok’s In-App revenue throughout 2024. However, when focusing solely on download numbers, TikTok ranks second in the fourth quarter of 2024, with Instagram taking the top spot and WhatsApp, Facebook, and Temu following closely behind in positions 3 to 5.
