Title: Subterranean Sensor System for Street Parking Detection – Facilitating Automated Parking Fee Collection.

The city of Taipei, Taiwan has recently implemented a new intelligent roadside parking system as of March 1st. This system includes the installation of in-ground magnetic sensors under the roads at 3,471 parking spots along 122 roads in the Banqiao, Yonghe, Zhonghe, and Xindian districts.

The parking monitoring system serves two main purposes. Firstly, it helps drivers locate available parking spots in high-demand areas by providing real-time data on parking availability through both a website and a parking app. On the other hand, it also manages the collection of parking fees, allowing drivers to conveniently pay via a mobile app. Additionally, in certain areas where sensors are installed, there are limited parking time restrictions with penalties enforced for exceeding the allotted time.

Taipei city will evaluate the success of this pilot program to prepare for future city-wide sensor installations.
