At the NVIDIA AI Summit Japan today, Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, and Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, have announced that SoftBank will acquire the world’s first Blackwell chip-powered NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, which will transform into the most powerful AI supercomputer in Japan once deployed.

SoftBank has not specified the exact purpose for this machine, but many companies within the group are actively involved in AI development, such as SB Intuitions, working on Japanese language AI development LLM.

In addition to SoftBank, several other Japanese companies have announced the installation of NVIDIA servers to meet the increasing demand for AI, such as:

– GMO GPU Cloud: Installing NVIDIA H200 purchased through Dell, expected to be operational this month.
– Highreso: Cloud graphic chip service provider announced the installation of an additional 1,600 sets of NVIDIA H200, scheduled to launch next year for developers in various industries.
– Rutilea: Another cloud company announced the opening of an AI data center in Fukushima and will add NVIDIA Hopper chips to the existing 1,000 units.
– SAKURA internet: Doubling the number of NVIDIA Hopper chips from 2,000 to 4,000 and preparing to add Blackwell chips later.

It is noteworthy that while all companies are adding a significant number of NVIDIA chips, only SoftBank has acquired the latest Blackwell chip. Previously, Jensen Huang admitted that Blackwell had production issues that prevented timely delivery.
