Nintendo reported its performance for the 9-month period ending in December 2024, with total sales reaching 9.56 trillion yen, a decrease of 31% compared to the same period in the previous year. Net profit also saw a decline of 2.37 trillion yen.
The decrease in figures is not unexpected as Nintendo announced the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, prompting many to hold off on purchasing the current model. In the past quarter alone, 4.82 million Switch units were sold, bringing the total to 150.86 million units since its launch, still lower than the DS at 154.02 million units.
Nintendo also reported record-breaking sales for the latest installment in the Mario Party series, Super Mario Party Jamboree, with 5.6 million copies sold in just 11 weeks.

TLDR: Nintendo’s sales and profits saw a decline, attributed to anticipation for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. Despite this, the latest Mario Party game achieved record-breaking sales.
