Canalys and IDC, market research companies, have released reports on the market share of smartphones in China for the second quarter of 2024. Both reports show that Vivo has successfully emerged as the top player in the Chinese market, with Apple dropping out of the top 5 smartphone vendors list.
According to Canalys, Vivo holds the first position with a market share of 19%, followed by Oppo at 16%, Honor at 15%, Huawei at 15%, Xiaomi at 14%, and Apple at 14%. Overall, smartphone sales have seen a growth of 10% in the second quarter compared to the same period last year.
On the other hand, IDC ranks Vivo as the leading vendor with an 18.5% market share, while Huawei follows closely behind at 18.1%, Oppo at 15.7%, Honor at 14.5%, and Xiaomi at 14%. The overall market has seen a growth of 8.9%.
IDC attributes Vivo’s success to its rise from fifth place to champion within a single quarter, driven by the sales of new budget to mid-range smartphones. However, when looking at the combined data from the first and second quarter, Huawei still holds the championship title.
