The open-source streaming software project OBS expresses dissatisfaction with Fedora’s decision to package software as Flatpaks, as users encountered issues and reverted to reporting problems directly to the OBS project itself.
Flatpak aims to package Linux applications to work on any distribution by bundling necessary libraries. Despite OBS having its own Flatpak, Fedora packaged OBS again, resulting in bugs due to an upgrade of the Qt library in Fedora’s version.
Developer Joel Bethke reported this issue to Fedora three weeks ago, but received no response until he expressed frustration and threatened legal action if the packaging continues without addressing the problems.
Fedora did not respond significantly, but recently announced that the obs-studio package will enter end-of-life status, and advised users not to report issues to OBS.
TLDR: OBS project criticizes Fedora for packaging software as Flatpaks, leading to unresolved issues and lack of response from Fedora, ultimately resulting in the end-of-life status for obs-studio package.
