TSMC Announces $100 Billion Expansion Investment in the United States

TSMC has announced an additional investment of 100 billion dollars in their semiconductor factory in the United States, on top of the existing 65 billion dollars investment plan. This long-term investment will involve the construction of additional facilities in Arizona, including 3 more chip packaging plants and a research and development center. It is considered the largest foreign company investment in the United States, marking a significant milestone.

C.C. Wei, the CEO of TSMC, unveiled this investment plan alongside President Donald Trump, stating that the vision of building chip factories in America was initiated by Trump in 2020 and is now coming to fruition. Trump emphasized the importance of semiconductor technology for the economy in the 21st century, ranging from AI to aerospace and high-tech manufacturing industries. The essential chips must be produced in American factories with American skills and labor, a goal that is currently being pursued.

TSMC revealed that the Arizona facilities currently employ over 3,000 people and are set to begin major production by the end of 2024.

NVIDIA expressed readiness to utilize TSMC’s expanded supply chain in the United States for chip production for their customers.
