Twilight’s Embrace: Release Date for South of Midnight Set for April 8, 2025, Priced at $40

South of Midnight, another game under the Xbox Studios umbrella, is being developed by Compulsion Games, a studio from Canada known for their work on We Happy Few. The game is set to be released on April 8, 2025, exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC (no PS5 version).

Set in the fictional town of Prospero in the American South, South of Midnight follows a teenage girl named Hazel on a quest to find her missing mother after a hurricane hits. The game explores a world of magic and mythical creatures based on Southern Fairytales, a departure from the Greek or Nordic legends commonly found in other games. Expect to encounter unique characters like a giant catfish friend, riding a monstrous alligator, and encountering mystical spider queens, along with standout art direction that sets it apart from the rest.

One interesting aspect of South of Midnight is its relatively short gameplay time of around 10-12 hours, priced at $39.99, making it a more affordable option compared to current games selling for $60-70. This pricing strategy mirrors what Microsoft did with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II in 2024.

TLDR: South of Midnight is a new game by Compulsion Games set in a mystical Southern town, offering a unique take on fairytales with short gameplay hours and an affordable price point.
