Ubisoft has announced the launch date of the game XDefiant, a team-based multiplayer shooter, which was initially unveiled in 2021 but has been continuously postponed for nearly 3 years. The full launch is now scheduled for May 21, 2024.
XDefiant could be likened to the Call of Duty of Ubisoft, as it is developed by a team led by Mark Rubin, former producer of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (who left Infinity Ward in 2015 and joined Ubisoft in 2019).
The concept of XDefiant revolves around bringing characters from various Ubisoft universes to battle it out. The game features playable characters from 5 factions:
– Echelon (Splinter Cell) – stealth abilities
– Phantoms (Ghost Recon) – focused on defense
– Cleaners (The Division) – utilizing fire weapons
– Libertad (Far Cry) – having self-sustaining powers
– Dedsec (WatchDogs) – equipped with hacking tools
Initially, the game includes 14 playable maps, 24 weapons, 5 gameplay modes, with plans for future updates including new weapons, characters, and factions. XDefiant is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (through Ubisoft Connect), with no news yet regarding a Steam or Epic version.
The game operates on a free-to-play model, with the first 4 factions playable for free, but access to the Dedsec faction requires payment to unlock.
TLDR: Ubisoft’s XDefiant, a team-based multiplayer shooter, is set to launch on May 21, 2024, incorporating characters from various Ubisoft franchises in an exciting battle arena.
