Ubisoft has confirmed the news of laying off 185 employees, which includes the closure of Ubisoft Leamington studio in the UK, and letting go of some staff in Ubisoft Düsseldorf in Germany, Ubisoft Stockholm in Sweden, and Ubisoft Reflections in the UK.
Established in 2002, Ubisoft Leamington was originally known as FreeStyleGames and was behind the creation of the game DJ Hero before being acquired by Ubisoft from Activision in 2017. Since then, they have contributed to several popular games such as Far Cry 5, Avatar, Star Wars Outlaws, and more.
Currently, Ubisoft employs approximately 19,000 people globally, a decrease from 20,000 in 2022, amidst the company’s less-than-stellar financial situation in recent years.
